Understanding Pokémon Card Condition
When buying Pokémon trading cards, condition matters. Card condition affects collectability, long-term value, and how a card displays in a collection. Below is a simple guide to the most commonly used condition terms and what they mean at KindredCardsTCG.
We aim to describe every card clearly and honestly, with photos provided so customers can judge condition for themselves.
Near Mint (NM)
Near Mint cards are very well preserved and show little to no signs of wear.
A Near Mint Pokémon card typically has:
Clean surfaces with no visible scratches or marks
Sharp corners with minimal whitening
Smooth edges
No creases, bends, or dents
These cards have usually been sleeved shortly after opening and carefully stored. Minor print imperfections from the factory may still be present, as these are considered normal.
Lightly Played (LP)
Lightly Played cards show minor signs of handling or use, but remain in good overall condition.
A Lightly Played card may have:
Slight edge or corner whitening
Small surface marks visible under light
Very minor wear from handling
There will be no major damage, creases, or structural issues. LP cards are a popular option for collectors who want great cards at a more accessible condition level.
Moderately Played (MP)
Moderately Played cards show clear signs of wear, but are still fully intact and identifiable.
An MP card may include:
Noticeable edge wear or whitening
Surface scratches or scuffs
Minor corner wear
These cards do not have severe damage but are best suited for binders, decks, or collectors who prioritise ownership over appearance.
Heavily Played (HP) / Damaged
Heavily Played or Damaged cards show significant wear and are clearly used.
This may include:
Heavy whitening
Creases or bends
Surface damage or marks
Structural wear
We only sell NM/M cards but any card listed that isn't in NM/M condition will be clearly marked and the price will reflect that so there are no surprises.
